FishEvo team at ESEB 2025 conference in Barcelona

In August we attended the Congress of European Society for Evolutionary Biology, and we presented several stories on fish vision and bioluminescence based on our research!

Our group photo:

Pau showed a poster on deep-water cichlids from the Cameroonian crater lakes, and what news can we get from the single-cell analysis od the retina:

Kristýna presented her single-cell RNA sequencing on the sturgeon species, one of which lost the rod cells entirely. So many open questions with this new method!:

Zuzka had a poster on her common barbel project, and what can we tell about vision after evolutionary tetraploidization:

…and Vítek showed his first results on the transcriptomics of the light organs in deep-sea fishes:

and finally myself, I had a talk on deep-sea fish vision:-). These fish are really bizarre:

Many thanks to all PhD students and postdocs for their representation at ESEB 2025! It was a great success and very motivating experience.
